FSMEC RESEARCH GRANT
The Foodservice Systems Management Education Council (FSMEC) is soliciting proposals to conduct research that contributes to advancing knowledge and understanding of foodservice management issues, and/or development and evaluation of educational programs in Foodservice Systems Management. Two awards of $2000.00 each will be made. Eligible members of FSMEC should develop proposals that meet the following requirements.
1. The proposal should include the following components:
- Title
- Research Design and Method
- Data Analysis
- Time Line
- References
- Biographical Sketch of Principal Investigator (brief)
- Budget
2. The proposal shall be a maximum of five (5) pages double spaced, including references, appendices, tabular material, and biographical sketch.
- Only one page shall be devoted to rationale and supporting literature.
- Only a few well-chosen references are needed.
- Emphasis in placed on methodology; explain it well.
- Study shall be completed within one year. Time line for completion must be included.
- Add FAX number and e-mail address to proposal review sheet.
- Vita for principal investigator must show current membership in FSMEC.
- The proposal must be submitted as an e-mail attachment and received by 4 p.m. (Central time) on October 18, 2007. Submit in PC-Microsoft Word file format or in rich-text format (RTF). Submit to: rfellers@auburn.edu
6. Proposals will be treated as privileged communication.
7. Award recipients will be notified of selection by January 11, 2008.
AWARD
Two $2,000 awards will be given. Due to the non-profit status of FSMEC and limited funds for grants, indirect costs are not reimbursed by FSMEC.
A committee consisting of FSMEC Regional Representatives or appointed alternates will select the grant recipients. Proposals will be selected using the following criteria and will be scored based on the percentage indicated for each criterion:
- Understanding of the research problem (20%)
- Appropriateness of research and design (30%)
- Feasibility (20%)
- Appropriateness of budget (15%)
- Capability of principal investigator/co-investigator (15%)
A signed agreement with the grant recipient regarding the person’s obligations to FSMEC will be obtained before awarding the funds for the grant.
Obligations of Grant Recipient to FSMEC
- A final written report must be submitted to the FSMEC Chair within 3 months of the end of the project.
- A presentation must be given at the 2009 Biennial Meeting.
- A manuscript based on the report is to be prepared for publication in an appropriate journal. FSMEC must be acknowledged as a funding source.
